Understanding

Application

The ratio of the bank balance of three brothers A, B and C is 10 : 12 : 5

Suppose the balances are 10x, 12x and 5x.

B transfers Rs 60,000 from his account to C's. The new ratio of the bank balances becomes 10 : 9 : 8

So,

10x : (12x – 60000) = 10 : 9

⇒ 90x = 120x – 600000

⇒ 30x = 600000

⇒ x = 20000

Hence,

Bank balance of A = 10x = Rs. 200000
