SSC CGL 2025 PYQ — Question 55

SSC CGL - 24 Sep 2025 - Shift 2 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q55

The radii of two circles are 6 cm and 2 cm. The centers of the two circles are 10 cm apart. What is the length of a transverse common tangent?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 6 cm.

Here, r1 = 6 cm, r2 = 2 cm, Distance between centers (d) = 10 cm

Transverse common tangent length = √[d2 – (r1 + r2)2]

= √[102 – (6 + 2)2]

= √(100 - 64)

= √36

= 6 cm
