If BC + XY = 18 units

According to the question

⇒ XY = $BC \over 2$

⇒ BC + XY = 18 units

⇒ BC + $BC \over 2$ = 18

⇒ 3$BC \over 2$ = 18

⇒ BC = 12 units

⇒ XY = $BC \over 2$ = $12 \over 2$ = 6 units

Hence, the value of BC - XY = 12 - 6 = 6 units
