The measures of the three angles of a triangle are in the ratio 17 : 13 : 15. Find the positive difference between the greatest and the smallest of these three angles.

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 1 i.e. 16°.

The angles of a triangle are in the ratio 17 : 13 : 15 = 17x : 13x : 15x

We know that the sum of the angles of the triangle = 180°

So,

⇒ 17x + 13x + 15x = 180°

⇒ 45x = 180°

⇒ x = 4

Thus,

Largest angle = 17x = 68°

Smallest angle = 13x = 52°

Required difference = 68° - 52° = 16°
