The marked price of a chair is 10 percent more than its cost price. If the chair is sold for Rs. 132 after a discount of Rs. 11, then what will be the profit percentage?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is option 2 i.e. 1.53 percent.

The  cost price of the chair = ( C)

The marked price (MP) is 10% more than the cost price:

MP = C + 0.1C = 1.1C

The chair is sold for Rs. 132 after a discount of Rs. 11.

Selling Price = MP - 11 = 132

⇒ 1.1C - 11 = 132

⇒ 1.1C = 132 + 11 = 143

⇒ C = 143 / 1.1 = 130

Profit = 132 - 130 = 2

Profit Percentage = (ProfitCost Price)×100\left( \frac{\text{Profit}}{\text{Cost Price}} \right) \times 100

Profit Percentage = (2130)×100\left( \frac{2}{130} \right) \times 100 = 1.53%

The profit percentage is 1.53%.
