The length breadth and height of a cuboid are in the ratio 4: 3: 2. If the length is increased 50% and the height is decreased by 40%, then the ratio of the new volume to the old volume of the box will be:

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 9 : 10

let length, breadth, and height be 4x, 3x, and 2x

Volume = L × B × H

= 4x × 3x × 2x

= 24x units cube

New dimensions

Length = 4x + 50% of 4x

= 6x

Breadth = 3x

Height = 2x - 40% of 2x = 2x - 4x/5

= 6x/5

New Volume = 6x × 3x × 6x/5

= 108x/5 units cube

Ratio = 108x/524\dfrac{108x/5}{24}

= 9/10

= 9 : 10
