SSC GD Constable (English) - 12 Feb 2019 Shift 3 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q67

The Least Common Multiple and Highest Common Factor of two numbers are 75 and 5 respectively. If their difference is 10, then what will be the sum of these two numbers?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 40.

Understanding/Application

L.C.M = 75

H.C.F = 5

Difference between L.C.M and H.C.F = 10

Product of two number = Product of L.C.M and H.C.F

Let the two numbers be a and b.

(a + b)2 = (a - b)2 + 4ab

ab = 75(5) = 375

a - b = 10

(a + b)2 = (a - b)2 + 4ab

(a + b)2 = 102 + 4(375) = 1600

a + b = 40
