SSC GD Constable (English) - 11 Feb 2019 Shift 3 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q70

The Least Common Multiple and Highest Common Factor of two numbers are 60 and 4 respectively. If their sum is 32, then what will be the difference of these two numbers?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is option 2 i.e. 8

HCF = 4 (given), LCM = 60 (given)

suppose 2 numbers are 4x and 4y

LCM × HCF = Product of 2 numbers

⇒ 4 × 60 = 4x × 4y

⇒ 15 = x × y ..... (1)

⇒ 4x + 4y = 32

 4(x + y) = 32 , x + y = 8 ...... (2)

By hit and trial method x = 5 , y = 3

Two numbers are 4x and 4y i.e 20 and 12

Difference of two numbers are 20 - 12 = 8.
