The Least Common Multiple and Highest Common Factor of two numbers are 60 and 3 respectively. If their difference is 3, then what will be the sum of these two numbers?
Show answer & explanation
Correct answer: C
Explanation
The correct answer is option 3 i.e. 27
Let two numbers be 3X and 3Y
LCM = 60(Given), HCF = 3(Given)
LCM × HCF = Product of two numbers
3 ×60 = 3X × 3Y
X × Y = 20 ...... (1)
Difference of two numbers = 3 (Given)
3X - 3Y = 3
X - Y = 1 ......(2)
Using hit and trial method in (1) and (2)
X = 5 , Y = 4
Two numbers are 3 × 5 = 15, 3 × 4 = 12.
Sum = 15 + 12 = 27.
