The initial ratio of water and milk in a mixture of 84 litres is 2 : 5. What quantity of water(in litres) should be added to the mixture so that the resulting mixture has 50% water?

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 3 i.e. 36.

Let the quantity of water added be x

Water in initial mixture = 84 × 272\over7 = 24 liters

Milk in initial mixture = 84 - 24 = 60 litres

So,

⇒ 24+x60=11{24+x\over60}={1\over1}

⇒ 24 + x = 60

⇒ x = 36 litres
