SSC GD Constable (English) - 24 Jan 2023 - Shift 2 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q47

The difference between two numbers is 1086. When we divide the larger number by the smaller we get six as quotient and six as remainder. Find the larger number.

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 2 i.e. 1302.

Let the smaller number be x

⇒ Larger number = x + 1086

By Euclid's division lemma, the larger number can also be written as 6x + 6

⇒ x + 1086 = 6x + 6

⇒ 5x = 1080

⇒ x = 216

The smaller number is 216 and the larger number = 216 + 1086 = 1302
