The difference between simple interest on a certain sum at the annual rate of 11 percent for 8 years and 9 years is Rs. 132. What is the sum?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. Rs. 1200.

Simple Interest = P × R × T / 100

( P ) is the principal,

( R ) is the annual rate of interest,

( T) is the time in years.

Simple interest for 8 years = P×11×8100=88P100\frac{P \times 11 \times 8}{100} = \frac{88P}{100}

Simple  Interest  for 9 years = P×11×9100=99P100\frac{P \times 11 \times 9}{100} = \frac{99P}{100}

The difference in simple interest for 9 years and 8 years is  Rs. 132.

⇒ 99P / 100 - 88P / 100 = 132
⇒( 99P - 88P) / (100) = 132
⇒(11P) / (100) = 132
⇒ 11P = 13200
⇒ P = (13200) / (11) = 1200
The principal sum is Rs. 1200.
