SSC CGL Tier II - Quant - 15 Nov 2020 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q22

The curved surface area of a right cylinder is 3696 cm2. Its height is three times its radius. What is the capacity (in litres) of the cylinder? (Take π = 22/7)

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 25.872

Concept

Basic formula related to cylinder

Curved Surface Area of Cylinder = 2πrh

Volume of Cylinder = πr2h

Application

Let radius of cylinder = x

Therefore, the height of cylinder = 3x

C.S.A of cylinder = 2πrh

Putting the values

2πx(3x) = 3696

upon solving

x = radius = 14 cm

Height = 14 x 3 = 42 cm

Volume of cylinder = πr2h

= 22 / 7 x 14 x 14 x 42 = 25872 cm3

 1000 cm3 = 1 litre

Therefore, the capacity of cylinder = 25872 / 1000 = 25.872 litres

Short cut

Check the option that is divisible by 11 since it is a factor of pie. 25.872 litres is the only option that is divisible by 11.
