SSC CGL - 25 Sep 2024 - Shift 1 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q60

The circumference of the base of the cylindrical vessel is 154 cm and its height is 49 mm. How many litres of water can it hold? (correct to three places of decimals, use π=227\pi = \frac{22}{7})

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 9.244.

The circumference of a circle = 2πr

The volume of a cylinder = πr2h

Where r is the radius and h is the height.

The height of the cylindrical vessel = 49 mm = 4.9 cm

Let the radius = R cm

So, 2 × (22/7) × R = 154

⇒ R = 24.5 cm

Volume =  πr2h = (22/7) × (24.5)2 × 4.9 = 9243.85 = 9244 cm3 (approx) = 9.244 L

Therefore, the cylindrical vessel can hold 9.244 liters of water.
