Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: C

Explanation

The correct answer is option 3 i.e. 1800

Given:

The boys and girls in a school are in the ratio 7 : 5.

If 60% of the boys and 40% of the girl are aged 14 years and below the age of 14 years

The number above the age of 14 years is 870

Calculations:

Let the number of boys and girls be 70x and 50x

Number of students aged 14 years and below the age of 14 years = 60% of 70x + 40% of 50x = 62x

Number of students above the age of 14 years = 120x - 62x = 58x

⇒ 58x = 870

⇒ x = 15

Total number of students = 120x = 120 × 15 = 1800
