The average weight of 9 boxes is 61 kg. If three boxes having an average weight of 70 kg are removed, then what will be the new average weight of the remaining boxes?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is option 2 i.e. 56.5 kg.

Average = Sum of the observations/Total number of Observations

The average weight of 9 boxes = 61 kg

Total weight of the 9 boxes = 9 × 61 = 549

Three boxes having an average weight of 70 kg are removed

So, the total weight of the three boxes = 3 × 70 = 210 Kg

Remaining weight of 6 boxes = 549 - 210 = 339 Kg

So, the average of the remaining boxes = 339/6 = 56.5 Kg
