The average of five consecutive odd numbers is 21. What is the largest number out of these five numbers?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: C

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 3 i.e. 25.

Let the five consecutive odd numbers be (x - 4), (x - 2), x, (x + 2), (x + 4)

We know that,

Average = Sum of observations/Number of observations

The average of these five numbers is 21

Sum of the numbers = 21 × 5 = 105

So,

⇒ (x - 4) + (x - 2) + x + (x + 2) + (x + 4) = 105

⇒ 5x = 105

⇒ x = 21

So,

The largest number = x + 4 = 21 + 4 = 25
