SSC MTS - 20 Feb 2026 - Shift 2 • Reasoning • Q40

The average age of P, Q and R at present is 60 years. Ratio of present ages of P, Q and R is 4 : 5 : 9. What is the difference between the total ages of P and R and the age of Q?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

Average age of P, Q, and R = 60 years

Total age = 60 × 3 = 180 years

Ratio:

P : Q : R = 4 : 5 : 9

Let:

P = 4x, Q = 5x, R = 9x

Total = 4x + 5x + 9x = 18x

18x = 180

x = 10

Actual ages:

P = 4 × 10 = 40

Q = 5 × 10 = 50

R = 9 × 10 = 90

Now, as per the question:

(P + R) − Q

(40 + 90) − 50 = 80

Final Answer: 80 years
