Directions: Five different companies, P, Q, R, S, and T, manufacture plastic and wooden bats. These bats are labeled as Brand A or Brand B. The given table shows the number of wooden bats as a percentage of the total bats manufactured by each company. It also shows the ratio of plastic bats labeled as Brand A to Brand B. Each company manufactures 1,00,000 bats. Study the table carefully and answer the question that follows.

Company Wooden bats Brand A : Brand B
P 65% 3 : 7
Q 70% 7 : 8
R 60% 19 : 6
S 70% 7 : 8
T 50% 2 : 3

Taking all companies together, how many plastic bats of Brand B have been manufactured?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 2 i.e. 96,100.

Each company manufactures 1,00,000 bats

Number of plastic bats manufactured by Company P = (100 - 65)/100 × 100000

⇒ 35/100 × 100000 = 35000

Number of plastic bats labeled as Brand B = 7/10 × 35000 = 24500

Now,

Number of plastic bats manufactured by Company Q = (100 - 70)/100 × 100000

⇒ 30/100 × 100000 = 30000

Number of plastic bats labeled as Brand B = 8/15 × 30000 = 16000

Now,

Number of plastic bats manufactured by Company R = (100 - 60)/100 × 100000

⇒ 40/100 × 100000 = 40000

Number of plastic bats labeled as Brand B = 6/25 × 40000 = 9600

Now,

Number of plastic bats manufactured by Company S = (100 - 70)/100 × 100000

⇒ 30/100 × 100000 = 30000

Number of plastic bats labeled as Brand B = 8/15 × 30000 = 16000

Now,

Number of plastic bats manufactured by Company T = (100 - 50)/100 × 100000

⇒ 50/100 × 100000 = 50000

Number of plastic bats labeled as Brand B = 3/5 × 50000 = 30000

So,

Total number of bags labeled as Brand B = 24500 + 16000 + 9600 + 16000 + 30000 = 96100
