Sunil started a juice (lemon syrup + water) counter. Initially, he had 145 liters of juice, which had 30% water in it. He sold 22 liters of the juice. Then he added an equal amount of lemon syrup and water. Now the ratio of water to lemon syrup became 1:2. How much water was added later on?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

Given:

Initial mixture = 145 liters

Water = 30%

Initially

Water = 30% × 145 = 43.5 liters

Lemonade = 145 − 43.5 = 101.5 liters

Now 22 liters of mixture sold

Water sold = 30% × 22 = 6.6 liters

Shelf sold = 22 − 6.6 = 15.4 liters

Now remaining

Water = 43.5 − 6.6 = 36.9 liters

Shelf = 101.5 − 15.4 = 86.1 liters

Let x liters of water and x liters of sherbet be mixed.

Water = 36.9 + x

Shelf = 86.1 + x

As per question

(36.9 + x) / (86.1 + x) = 1 / 2

2(36.9 + x) = 86.1 + x

73.8 + 2x = 86.1 + x

x = 12.3 liters of water
