SSC CGL 2023 PYQ — Question 86

SSC CGL - 17 July 2023 - Shift 4 • Reasoning • Q86

Study the given pattern carefully and select the number that can replace the question mark (?) in it.

(14, 10, 9)

(6, 8, 2)

(8, 4, ?)

(NOTE: Operations should be performed on the whole numbers, without breaking down the numbers into its constituent digits. E.g. 13 - Operations on 13 such as adding/subtracting/multiplying etc. to 13 can be performed. Breaking down 13 into 1 and 3 and then performing mathematical operations on 1 and 3 is not allowed).

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is option 2 i.e. 6.

The Logic is : (First Number - Third Number) = Second Number ÷ 2

⇒(14, 10, 9)

14 - 9 = 10 ÷ 2

5 = 5

⇒(6, 8, 2)

6 - 2 = 8 ÷ 2

4 = 4

Similarly,

⇒(8, 4, ?)

8 - a = 4 ÷ 2

a = 6

Hence, 6 is the correct answer.
