A 680 9:08
B 720 4:05
C 540 5:13
D 660 2:01
E 900 13:12

In how many schools, the number of girls is more than the average number of boys per school?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 3.

Number of boys in school A = 680(9/17) = 360

Number of girls in school A = 680 - 360 = 320

Number of boys in school B = 720(4/9) = 320

Number of girls in school B = 720 - 320 = 400

Number of boys in school C = 540(5/18) = 150

Number of girls in school C = 540 - 150 = 390

Number of boys in school D = 660(2/3) = 440

Number of girls in school D = 660 - 440 = 220

Number of boys in school E = 900(13/25) = 468

Number of girls in school E = 900 - 468 = 432

Average = Sum of all observations/Total observations

Average of number of boys per school = (360 + 320 + 150 + 440 + 468)/5 = 1838/5 = 367.6

Therefore three schools have the girls more than average boys per school.
