Six years ago, the ratio of the ages of A and B was 7 : 8. After 2 years from now, the ratio of their ages will be 9 : 10. What is the sum of the present ages (in years) of A and B?

The correct answer is Option 3 i.e. 72.

According to the question,

⇒ 7x+6+28x+6+2=910{{7x+6+2}\over{8x+6+2}}={9\over10}

⇒ 7x+88x+8=910{{7x+8}\over{8x+8}}={9\over10}

⇒ 10(7x + 8) = 9(8x + 8)

⇒ 70x + 80 = 72x + 72

⇒ 2x = 8

⇒ x = 4

Sum of present ages of A and b = 7x + 6 + 8x + 6 = 5x + 12

⇒ 15 × 4 + 12 = 60 + 12 = 72 years
