Seven years ago, the ratio of the ages of A and B was 2 : 7. The ratio of their present ages is 3 : 8. What will be the ratio of the ages of A and B, four years from now?

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 5 : 12.

According to the question,

⇒ 2x+77x+7=38{2x+7\over7x+7}={3\over8}

⇒ 8(2x + 7) = 3(7x + 7)

⇒ 16x + 56 = 21x + 21

⇒ 5x = 35

⇒ x = 7

Age of A after 4 years = 3x + 4 = 21 + 4 = 25 years

Age of B after 4 years = 8x + 4 = 56 + 4 = 60 years

Required ratio = 25 : 60 = 5 : 12
