The young man prayed to God to help him clear that interview.

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 1 i.e. The young man said, “O God! Help me clear this interview.”

The given sentence is in indirect speech, to convert this sentence into direct speech we need to follow the following points:

  • The given sentence is an example of an exclamatory sentence. The notion of these kinds of sentences is 'joy, sorrow, surprise, applause, detest, hate, etc." Reporting Verbs are changed according to the notion of Reported Speech. These verbs are 'exclaimed with surprise, exclaimed with sorrow, exclaimed with joy, exclaimed with contempt, etc.'
  • In the reportig verb, 'said' will be used in place of 'prayed'.

  • Comma and inverted commas will be removed. And conjunction 'to' will also be removed.

  • 'O God!' will be added.

  • 'Him' will be changed into 'me'.

  • 'That' will be changed into 'this'.

After following these steps, we got the direct speech as: The young man said, “O God! Help me clear this interview.”

Hence, the correct answer is Option 1 i.e. The young man said, “O God! Help me clear this interview.”
