Read the given statements and conclusions carefully. Assuming that the information given in the statements is true, even if it appears to be at variance with commonly known facts, decide which of the given conclusions logically follow(s) from the statements.

Statements:

Some spoons are plates.

Some plates are tumblers.

Conclusions:

I. No tumbler is a spoon.

II. No plate is a spoon.

III. Some tumblers are spoons.

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: B

Explanation

The correct answer is option 2 i.e. Either conclusion I or conclusion III follows.

The least possible Venn Diagram for the given statements is drawn below:

Conclusions:

I. No tumbler is a spoon → False (It is possible but no definite conclusion can be drawn.)

II. All engineers are M. Tech students → False (It is possible but no definite conclusion can be drawn.)

III. Some tumblers are spoons → False (It is possible but no definite conclusion can be drawn.)

But, conclusions I and III are complementary to each other, so, either of them follows.

Hence, Either conclusion I or conclusion III follows.
