R’s weighing machine shows 400 gm when the actual weight is 350 gm. The cost price of almonds is ₹880 per kg and packets of 200 gm are made using the faulty machine. What should be the selling price (in ₹) of each packet to get a profit of 25%?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 192.50.

Given that, CP of 1 Kg = ₹ 880

For every 400 gm packet, actual weight = 350 gm

For every 200 gm packet, actual weight = 350400×200{350 \over 400} \times 200 = 175 gm

Now, CP of 1000 gm (1 Kg) = 880

CP of 175 gm = 8801000×175{880 \over 1000} \times 175 = 154

Also, to get a profit of 25%, SP=CP×(100+P)100SP = {{CP \times {(100 + P)\over 100}}}

⇒ SP=154×125100SP = {{154 \times {125\over 100}}}

⇒ SP=154×54SP = {{154 \times {5\over 4}}}

⇒ SP = 192.50

Hence the required selling price is ₹192.50.
