At the end of the year, A got 50% of the profit as his share. For how many months did A alone invest in the business?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 3.

Person A started a business by investing Rs. 65,000

B joined him by investing Rs. 50,000

C joined both of them by investing Rs. 55,000

Let the investment time for B be x months

⇒ Investment of C = (x - 3) months

Profit ratio required by A, B and C

⇒ 65000 × 12 : 50000 × x : 55000 × (x - 3)

⇒ 156 : 10x : 11x - 33

We know, A got 50% of the total share

⇒ 156(156+10x+11x−33)=12{156 \over (156 + 10x + 11x-33)} = {1\over 2}

⇒ 312 = 156 + 21x - 33

⇒ 21x = 189

⇒ x = 9 months

So, A alone invested = 12 - 9 = 3 months
