Out of three numbers, the ratio of the first and the second numbers is 3: 4, and the ratio of the second and the third numbers is 5: 6. If the difference between the first and the third number is 1125, find the average of the second and third numbers.

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 2750.

Let the nos be a,b, and c.

The ratio of the first and the second numbers = a: b = 3x: 4x

The ratio of the second and the third numbers = b: c = 5x: 6x

Ratio of a:b:c = 15x:20x:24x

According to the question;

The difference between the first and the third number is 1125.

So, 24x- 15x = 1125

x = 125

So, the numbers are:

a = 15x =1875

b = 20x = 2500

c = 24x = 3000

Thus, the average of the second and third numbers = (2500 + 3000) ÷ 2= 2750
