Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. Rs. 300.

Let the total income = 100x

Savings = 15x and Amount spent (remaining) = 100x - 15x = 85x

Health : Education : Food = 1 : 2 : 2

Expenditure on Health = (1/5) × 85x = 17x and Education = (2/5) × 85x = 34x

100x = 3(34x) - 300

⇒ 100x = 102x - 300

⇒ x = 150

Savings = 15x = 15 × 150 = 2250

Expenditure on Health = 17x = 17 × 150 = 2550

Difference = 2550 - 2250 = Rs. 300
