On selling a mobile for Rs.3,825 a man loses 15%. For how much should he sell it to gain 12%?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer  is option 1 i.e. Rs.5,040.

Selling Price with 15% loss = ₹3,825

Let Cost Price (CP) = x

SP =(1−0.15)×x=0.85x (1 - 0.15) \times x = 0.85x

⇒ 0.85x=3825⇒x=38250.85=45000.85x = 3825 \Rightarrow x = \frac{3825}{0.85} = 4500

Cost Price = ₹4,500

Selling Price for 12% gain ( SP) =  (1+0.12)×4500=1.12×4500=(1 + 0.12) \times 4500 = 1.12 \times 4500 =  ₹5,040
