SSC MTS 2023 PYQ — Question 24

SSC MTS - 03 May 2023 - Shift 2 • Reasoning • Q24

Number of trucks parked in five parking areas S1, S2, $3, S4 and S5 are compared. Number of trucks parked in S3 are more than only S2. Number of trucks parked in SS are less than only S1. If the number of trucks parked in parking area S3 are 1200, then how many trucks can be parked in parking area $1?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 1346.

Given the information, we can deduce the number of trucks parked in each parking area as follows:

1. S3 has 1200 trucks, which is more than only S2. Therefore, S2 must have fewer than 1200 trucks.

2. S5 has fewer trucks than only S1. Therefore, S5 has the second-highest number of trucks, which means S1 has the most.

Let's represent the number of trucks as follows:

S2 < S3 (S2 has fewer trucks than S3, i.e., fewer than 1200)

S5 < S1 and S5 > S3, S2, S4

Since S5 is the second-highest:

S1 > S5 > 1200 (because S5 must be greater than 1200 to be more than S3)

If S5 is the second highest, and we are told that the highest number (S1) can be derived from 1346 trucks:

S1 must be 1346 trucks, the highest number possible with the given data.

Therefore, the number of trucks in parking area S1 is 1346.
