SSC CGL Tier II - Quant - 3 Feb 2022 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q66

Let x, y, x be fractions such that x < y < z. If z is divided by x, the result is 52\frac{5}{2}, which exceeds y by 74\frac{7}{4}. If x + y + z = 1 1112\frac{11}{12}, then the ratio of (z - x) :  (y - x) is:

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 6 : 5.

z/x = 5/2

y = 5/2 - 7/4 = 3/4.

 x + y + z = 1 1112\frac{11}{12}

2x + 3/4 + 5x = 23/12

7x = 14/12

x = 1/6

x = 2x = 2 × 1/6 = 1/3.

z = 5x = 5 × 1/6 = 5/6

(z - x) : (y - x) = (5/6 - 1/3) : (3/4 - 1/3) = (1/2) : (5/12) = 6 : 5.
