Instead of increasing a number successively by 40 percent and 60 percent, it is decreased by 44 percent. The resultant value is what percentage of the required correct value?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: C

Explanation

The correct answer is option 3 i.e. 25 percent.

Let the number be 100

The number after increasing 40% = 100 + 40 = 140

Then, the number will become after increasing 60% (resultant value) = 140 × (160/100) = 224

But, the number will decrease after 44% (required value) = 100 - 44 = 56

The required percentage = (56/224) × 100% = 25%

Therefore, the resultant value is 25 percent of the required correct value.
