SSC CGL - 23 Aug 2021 - Shift 2 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q64

In triangles ABC, D and E are the midpoints of AB and BC respectively. If area (△CED) = 8 cm2, then what is the area (ADEC) in cm2 ?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 24

In △DBC,

BE = EC

Ratio of the area of △DEB to area of △DEC = 1 : 1

△DBE = 8 cm2.

Now in △ABC,

D and E are the midpoints of AB and BC.

By using Midpoint theorem we get,

DE : AC = 1 : 2

Area of △BDE : Area of △ABC = 1 : 4

Area of △ABC = 8 × 4 = 32 cm2

Area of ADEC = 32 - 8 = 24 cm2
