SSC CGL 2022 PYQ — Question 56

SSC CGL - 20 April 2022 - Shift 2 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q56

In triangle ABC, X and Y are the points on sides AB and AC, respectively, such that XY is parallel to BC. If XY: BC = 2.5 : 7, what is the ratio of the area of the trapezium  BCYX to that of the ∆AXY?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: C

Explanation

 The correct answer is option 3 i.e.  17125\frac{171}{25}

Here, XY : BC = 2.5 : 7

As it is given that XY || BC

So, ∆AXY ~ ∆ABC

(Area of ∆AXY)/ (Area of ∆ ABC) = (XY/BC)2 = (2.5/7)2 = 6.25/49

Now, Area of ∆AXY = 6.25

So area of trapezium BCYX = 49 - 6.25 = 42.75 = 171/25
