Thomas is a man of word who have been paying back the borrowed money in instalments.

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. who have been paying back.

  1. The error lies in part 4 of the statement because of the wrong use of "Subject-verb agreement".
  2. We need to replace "Have" with "Has" to make the statement grammatically correct.

Grammatical Concept:- 

  • Subjects and verbs must AGREE with one another in number (singular or plural). Thus, if a subject is singular, its verb must also be singular; if a subject is plural, its verb must also be plural.

  • As the relative pronoun "who" is being used for the noun "Thomas" which is singular hence, we need to use a singular verb here.

  • The chosen option contains the ERROR hence, it will be the correct answer.
