SSC GD 2024 PYQ — Question 66

SSC GD Const (English) - 21 Feb 2024 - Shift 1 • Reasoning • Q66

In the following question below are given some statements followed by some conclusions based on those statements. Taking the given statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance from commonly known facts. Read all the conclusions and then decide which of the given conclusions logically follows the given statements.

Statements:

I. Some U are C

II. No L is U.

Conclusion:

I. Some L are U.

II. Some C are not L.

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. Only conclusion II follows

The least possible Venn Diagram for the given statements is drawn below:

Conclusions:
Some L are U:

This conclusion directly contradicts Statement II (No L is U). Since L and U are disjoint, it is impossible for any L to be U.
Conclusion I does not follow.
Some C are not L:

From Statement I, we know that some U are C.
From Statement II, we know that no L is U. Therefore, the part of C that overlaps with U cannot overlap with L (because L and U are disjoint).
Hence, it is logical to conclude that some C are not L.
Conclusion II follows.

Hence, Only conclusion II follows.
