In the following question, a sentence has been given in Direct/Indirect speech. Out of the four alternatives suggested, select the one which best expresses the same sentence in Indirect/Direct speech.

"By God! I have not cheated," said the boy.

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. The boy swore that he had not cheated.

 

  1. As the reporting verb is in the past tense there will be a change in the tense of the reported speech.
  2. There will be a change in the reporting verb as there is an exclamatory sentence.

  4. "have" will be changed into "had".
  5. Inverted comma will be changed into "that".
