In Δ DEW, AB∥EW. If AD = 4 cm, DE = 12 cm, and DW = 24 cm, then find the length of DB.

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 8 cm.

Let DB be x cm then, BW = (24 - x) cm

and, AE = 12 - 4 = 8 cm

Now, in ΔDEW AB||EW then,

⇒ ADAE=BDBW{AD\over AE} ={ BD\over BW}

⇒ 48=x(24−x){4\over 8} ={ x\over (24-x)}

⇒ 12=x(24−x){1\over 2} ={ x\over (24-x)}

⇒ 24 - x = 2x

⇒ 3x = 24

⇒ x = 8

Thus, DB = 8 cm
