Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: C

Explanation

The correct answer is option 3 i.e. 1270.

Let the total number of votes be V.

We know that one of the candidates secured 35% of the votes.

So, Votes for the defeated candidate= 0.35V

The other candidate secured the remaining votes, which is:

Votes for the winning candidate = 0.65V

The difference in votes between the two candidates is given as 381 votes.

⇒ 0.65V - 0.35V = 381

⇒ 0.30V=381

⇒ V = 3810.30\frac{381}{0.30} = 1270

Thus, the total number of votes polled is 1270.
