In an election between two candidates, the one who gets 58% of the votes polled is elected by a majority of 4,032 votes. What is the total number of votes polled?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 1 i.e. 25,200.

Let the total number of votes be 100x.

Winning candidate votes = 58% of 100x = 58x

Losing candidate votes = 42% of 100x = 42x

According to the question;

⇒ 58x - 42x = 4032

⇒ 16x = 4032

⇒ x = 252

Hence, the total number of votes = 100x = 25200
