In an election between two candidates, the one who gets 75% of the votes is elected by a majority of 520 votes. What is the total number of votes polled?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The Correct answer is Option 1 i.e. 1040.

Let, the total number of votes polled be x.

One candidate get 75% of x = 75x/100

Another candidate get 25% of x = 25x/100

Difference between votes = 520

⇒ 75x/100 - 25x/100 = 520

⇒ 50x/100 = 520

⇒ x = 1040
