Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 4 i.e 4320.

Explanation:

Let the total number of votes polled be 100x.

Now, according to the given question,

Votes obtained by the losing candidate = 35% of 100x = 35x

Votes obtained by winning candidate = 100% - 35% = 65% of 100x = 65x

Now, the difference between the votes of winning candidate and losing candidate = 1296

⇒ 65x - 35x = 1296

⇒ 30x = 1296

⇒ x = 43.2

So, total number of votes polled = 100x = 100 × 43.2 = 4320.

Hence the total number of votes polled were 4320.
