Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: C

Explanation

The correct answer is option 3 i.e. 101000

Calculations:

Let the total number of votes be x

5% didn't cast their votes = 95% of x

Invalid votes = 10%

Total valid votes = 90% of (95% of x)

Votes of winning candidate = 60% of 90% of (95% of x)

Votes of losing candidate = 40% of 90% of (95% of x)

Now, according to the question

⇒ 60% of 90% of (95% of x) - 40% of 90% of (95% of x) = 17271

⇒ 20% of 90% of (95% of x) = 17271

⇒ 0.2 × 0.9 × .95 × x = 17271

⇒ x = 101000
