Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is option 4 i.e. 2000

Let the total number of voters in the voting list be 100X units

Given that

20% of the voters on the voters list did not cast their votes

The voters who cast their votes = 80X units

If 80 voters cast their ballot papers blank,

So, the valid votes = 80X - 80

The winner gets votes = 45% × 100X = 45X

The loser candidate gets votes = 45X - 280

According to the question

⇒ 45X + 45X - 280 = 80X - 80

⇒ 90X - 80X = 280 - 80 = 200

⇒ 10X = 200

⇒ 100X = 2000

Hence, the total number of voters in the voting list is 2000
