In an election between two candidates, 15% of the votes were invalid and one candidate got 52% of the total valid votes. If the total number of votes was 8000, what was the number of valid votes that the other candidate got?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 3264.

According to the given question,

Total number of valid votes = 85% of 8000

⇒ 85/100 × 8000 = 6800

The votes obtained by other candidate = 48% of total valid votes

⇒ (48/100) × 6800 = 3264
