Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: A

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 20000

According to the question,

55% of votes got by the successful candidate so, the rest votes i.e., (100 - 55)% = 45 % of valid votes got by the unsuccessful candidate.

1710 votes are (55 - 45) % = 10 % of total valid votes.

1710 = 10% of total valid votes

⇒ 1710 = 10% of (95% of the votes cast)

⇒ 1710 = 10% of {95% of (90% of enrolled voters)}

⇒1710=(10100)×(95100)×(90100)\Rightarrow 1710=\left(\frac{10}{100}\right) \times\left(\frac{95}{100}\right) \times\left(\frac{90}{100}\right)enrolled voters

⇒ 1710 × 1000000 = 85500 × enrolled voters

Enrolled voters = 20000
