SSC MTS - 15 July 2022 - Shift 3 • Quantitative Aptitude • Q65

In an election between 2 candidates, 5% of the votes were invalid. The winning candidate got 2200 votes and the losing candidate got 1600 votes. The losing candidate got what percentage of the total votes cast?

Show answer & explanation

Correct answer: D

Explanation

The correct answer is Option 4 i.e. 40%.

Calculations:

The total number of votes by the winning and losing candidate = 2200 + 1600 = 3800

The total valid votes were 95% of the total votes. Thus,

⇒ 3800 = Total votes × (95/100)

⇒ Total votes = 4000

The total number of votes% to the losing candidate = (1600/4000) × 100 = 40%
