In ∆ABC, AD is the internal bisector of ∠A, meeting the side BC at D. If BD = 5 cm, BC = 7.5 cm, then AB : AC is:

Explanation

The correct answer is option 1 i.e. 2 : 1.

As seen in the figure

Since AD is the internal bisector of ∠A, In △ABD and △ACD we have

ABAC=BDDC\frac{AB}{AC} = \frac{BD}{DC}

⇒ ABAC\frac{AB}{AC} = 52.5\frac{5}{2.5} = 21\frac{2}{1}

Hence AB : AC = 2 : 1
